ABOUT ME
History of the Rock Hill Music Club
On March 18, 1914, a group of ladies met in the home of
Mrs. A. E. Smith for the purpose of organizing a music club.
They were aware of the musical ability in Rock Hill that was untapped.
It was at this meeting that the club was organized and named
the Juliette Symphony Club. Regular meetings would be held.
The club was divided into three departments - piano, vocal, and violin. Anyone who was not a member of the club could enjoy the recitals
by paying the small sum of ten cents which was used to buy music.
The number of charter members was thirty-five.

Although the Rock Hill Music Club originally met in the homes of
its members, today the Club generally meets in local churches
which allow room for many guests from York County and the
surrounding area. Club members and guests frequently enjoy compositions by the classical greats - Mozart, Beethoven, Bach,
but often have programs saluting our local heritage that include
the fiddle, banjo, jazz, spirituals, hymns, and choral groups.
